School Uniform Support

We are delighted with the successful outcome of our recent school uniform in partnership with Derbion.

School Uniform

Together we opened the doors of the Derbion Community Hub for the five-day pop-up Uniform Shop, where we were able to give much needed support to hundreds of households within the city.

We were able to support families with mixture of pre-loved and new uniform, PE kits, shoes, pumps and toothpaste and brushes to help alleviate the stress some parents go to in the decision in having to buy new school uniform or put food on the table.

Due to the generous donations of Derby residents, we have been able to support 800 primary and secondary school children with free school uniform, to the value of more than £7,300, equating to more than 3000 items.

We were only able to make this pop-up shop possible thanks to our amazing volunteers!!

The event was staffed with over 45 volunteers, including employees from Derbion, Alstom, students from Bemrose School and our own DF4TA volunteers. They all played a massive part in getting the uniform stocked like a normal shop in sizes and departments so that items were easily accessible - we really couldn’t have done it without them.

Thank you To our Volunteers and partners that helped on this project

Thank you to the staff at Derbion for all their support again this year

Beth McDonald, managing director at Derbion, said: “From kitting out the School Uniform Hub with rails, hangers and display equipment thanks to generous donations from retailers including River Island, Frasers and M&S, Poundland and NEXT, to members of team Derbion volunteered more than 80 hours to staff the pop-up event, it’s been wonderful to see the true difference this initiative has had.”

Paul Brookhouse, senior manager at DF4TA, said: “We’ve seen first-hand how receiving these items has relieved stress for parents who might otherwise struggle to afford the necessary uniforms, possibly leading to food insecurity, so we’re extremely grateful to Derbion for its ongoing support, which has helped bring our initiative to life in the heart of the city for the second consecutive year.”

DF4TA are currently working to look at ways to make the school uniform hub a more permanent support for our community. Please keep a look out for more coming information.
